Chilly idli

Idli is a healthy and a tasty food to include in diet.Chilly idli is actually an innovative version, and a good idea to use the left over idlis. It can be served as a starter or an appetizer. Like any other Indo - Chinese dishes, chilly idli can be made with minimum efforts.


Ingredients:


Idli normal size - 8 Nos (Each idlis cut into 6 to7 cubes)

Onion - 1 large (Cut into square cubes)

Capsicum - 1 medium (Cut into square pieces )

Ginger chopped finely - 2 tablespoon

Garlic crushed finely - 2 tablespoon

Green chillies - 3 Nos sliced

Red chilly sauce - 3 tablespoon

Tomato ketchup - 3 tablespoon

Soya sauce - 2 tablespoon

Vinegar - 3/4 tablespoon

Sugar - 1 teaspoon

Red chilly powder - 3 teaspoon

Salt to taste

Spring onion green for garnishing

Water - 1/4 cup (Standard measurement cup)

Oil for frying and sauting


Directions to make:


1. Take 8 idlis and cut each one into 6 to 7 pieces. Heat enough oil in a kadai. When it is sizzling hot add the idlis and deep fry them till it become crisp and light golden brown color* ( fry the idlis in batches).

2. Remove them from the oil and pat dry them with a tissue paper.Keep it aside.

3. Heat oil in a pan and add finely chopped garlic, ginger and green chillies. Saute them till we get a good aroma.

4. Then add onion and suate for a minute. After adding onion add the capsicum and satue it. But don't lose the crunchiness of onion and capsicum.

5. Turn the flame into high and add sauces( Tomato ketchup, red chilly sauce and soya sauce).Then add vinegar, sugar and water.Mix everything well and check the salt. if required, add a little salt (sauces includes salt).

6. Finally add the fried idlis and mix it with the sauce and make sure that idlis are well coated with sauces and everything is balanced.

7. Turn off the flame, garnish it with spring onion greens and serve hot*.
